  • Light: Full sun to partial shade. Morning sun with afternoon shade helps protect the blooms and foliage in hotter climates.

  • Water: Water 2 to 3 times a week during the first growing season, then once or twice a week as it matures. Keep soil consistently moist, since dry spells can cause buds to drop before opening.

  • Space: Plan for a mature size of about 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, a naturally compact habit that rarely needs pruning to stay tidy.

This gardenia needs acidic, well-drained soil; alkaline soil can cause yellowing leaves and reduced blooming. A light layer of mulch helps regulate moisture, but keep it shallow so the crown doesn't stay wet.
