Smaller in stature than its Southern Magnolia cousins, this versatile tree is a great choice for most modern-day yards. Royal Star Magnolia is prized for its large, fragrant, starburst shaped blooms in early spring.
The Weeping Higan Cherry is a stunning accent tree featuring couds of double pale pink blossoms and graceful weeping boughs. It has dark green foliage following the blooms that turn yellow in the fall. Ideally should be grown in full sunlight sheltered from strong winds with well-drained soil; it will not tolerate standing water.
The late blooming Kousa Dogwood (Chinese Dogwood) has a profusion of pale pinkish white spring flowers that show up later than other flowering dogwoods, and last for weeks and weeks! The Kousa has the additional benefit of being cold hardier than other flowering dogwoods.
