About

Norway Spruce is an elegant and shapely conifer choice that has many desirable attributes ranging from its iconic pyramidal shape, to its graceful drooping limbs covered in dark green neeedles that are roughly 1/2″ – 1″ in length. Norway Spruce trees are versatile and can provide either a large focal point for your lawn or garden, or act as privacy wall when planted in a row. The Norway Spruce grows nearly a foot every year up to 60 feet tall with a spread of 25 feet in diameter, and will quickly bring luscious color and shape to your area. The dense branch shape is built to withstand extremes; it survives in colder temperatures that experience deep snows, but also does fine in warmer zones. Wildlife love this tree. It supports a variety of song birds and is important winter cover for deer and small game including grouse, hare, and woodcock. Hawks and owls especially enjoy roosting in its branches. Look for a very sunny spot for this big lug! It’s considered easy to grow and has a high tolerance for harder clay and sandy soil as well as both alkaline and acidic soils. Furthermore, Norway Spruce naturally maintain their shape and therefore do not need pruning.
